Which 3D printers can print the DeskLamp?

The .3mf projects are packed for a 256×256 mm bed — Bambu Lab A1, P1S or X1C open them ready to print. The A1 mini works too with the 120 or 165 mm module lengths: re-arrange the plates in your slicer and lay the arm modules along the diagonal of the build plate. The largest single part with 210 mm modules is 230×129 mm, so the long version needs a full-size bed. On a 220 mm bed (Ender-class) the 120 and 165 mm builds fit fine after re-arranging.

How much filament do I need?

A typical 4-module lamp lands around 600–700 g of PLA. The configuratorshows a live estimate for your exact build — grams per color under “Filament shopping list”, with a rough total print time.

What print settings are used?

The generated projects come pre-configured: PLA, 0.2 mm layers, 3 walls, 20% gyroid infill — no supports needed. Every part is already laid flat in its tested print orientation, so you just hit slice and print.

Do the printed bolts actually hold?

Yes — the entire arm is held by printed bolts and nuts, hand-tightened, no tools. Every thread was designed to print in the orientation that gives it the highest strength, which is why the lamp needs no metal screws, glue or inserts at all. Loosen a joint half a turn to re-pose the lamp, tighten it back and it stays put. Not sure about your printer's tolerances? Download the free test kit(bolt + nut + washers) — if it threads smoothly, you're good for the full build.

What do I need to buy besides the prints?

Only two things — everything else is printed:
  • E27 corded socket (pendant light cord set) example on Amazon. Quick compatibility check for other listings: E27 socket with a threaded outer shell and a screw-on locking ring (the ring clamps the shade against the printed adapter), an inline switch, and a plug for your region. Cable 1.5–2 m works best on a desk.
  • E27 LED bulb — LED only (stays cool next to PLA). Smart color-changing bulbs are a perfect match; see the question below.

Which bulb should I use? Can it be a smart bulb?

Any E27 LED bulb — LEDs run cool, which matters next to a printed shade. Skip incandescent and halogen (too hot). Smart bulbs are where this lamp shines: color changing, app or voice controlled, scheduled with your smart home. Sunrise white for work, warm amber for the evening — one lamp, every mood.

Which clamp size fits my desk?

Three sizes, picked in the configurator: 40 for desk tops up to 35 mm, 60 for 36–55 mm, 80 for 56–75 mm. Measure your desk top thickness (with any lip or rail the clamp has to swallow) and choose the matching size.

Is the configurator free? What does a plan unlock?

The 3D configurator and the step-by-step assembly guide are free for everyone. A free account adds saving builds to your dashboard and the printable test kit. A Premium or Commercial plan unlocks the actual print files — ready-to-slice .3mf projects for any configuration, for a year. Supported the project on MakerWorld? Redeem your code.

How long does assembly take?

Around 30–45 minutes. The interactive 3D guide walks your exact configuration — your colors, your module count — one bolt at a time, in the order that actually works.
